<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am so excited to be back on my blog sharing a project. It has been a few months - I was crafting while I was away from blogging, so I will be sharing more projects soon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was shopping in the Silhouette Store and was very inspired by Lori Whitlock's <a href="http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/?page=view-shape&id=54870" target="_blank">You're My Favorite Phrase Cut File</a>. It is such a sweet and fun Valentine's Day sentiment!<br />
<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I cut the sentiment out with black cardstock using my Silhouette. I glued the black letters on vellum so I wouldn't cover up the background of the card. You may be thinking....wouldn't it be easier to print the sentiment on vellum? Probably! :) But, I thought about it, and I love the layering effect and texture you get with die-cut letters especially on vellum. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To ensure the black letters were glued perfectly straight on the vellum, I used the black cardstock negative from the die-cut to position and glue the letters. This technique also keeps the glue behind the letters and not all over the vellum! Use a paper clip to the keep the vellum and negative in place.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbQfjc5Wqj3u3ZXF2X1RzVR4-cETSQjVPMS2MZQ_QpZUQ52GHGUoUr35JOhtI599FY1zCCFF-5ZpYrFBc0EBk15-QwFa0Wwh5-S4oqjoySzcSnY_PtI9pjWLV02Ffii_Z9lGFmtQ4r4Mob/s1600/History+of+Ever_TPR_2-14-14_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbQfjc5Wqj3u3ZXF2X1RzVR4-cETSQjVPMS2MZQ_QpZUQ52GHGUoUr35JOhtI599FY1zCCFF-5ZpYrFBc0EBk15-QwFa0Wwh5-S4oqjoySzcSnY_PtI9pjWLV02Ffii_Z9lGFmtQ4r4Mob/s1600/History+of+Ever_TPR_2-14-14_2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
Once you have glued all of the letters in place, remove the black cardstock negative. Make sure to do this slowly so you don't remove any of the letters with it.</div>

I am love with maps right now, so I had to use a map as the card background. The 'map' paper is by October Afternoon pulled from my stash of the Seaside collection. I added some little red die-cut hearts to the red lines on the map and I splattered pink ink (Pink Balloon Sprinkler by October Afternoon) for more color.</div>

Halloween is right around the corner!
I have a really fun project to share with you today!<br />
<br />
I made some adorable and delicious Halloween Brownie Pops to give out as spooky gifts for Halloween. I made the cute box the pops are standing in too - the box displays them so nicely!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdAHgqvbYerz7aZTs9E_iEniU-PXogL9V6W9PDMB3eXSUkm4DBhEIjgtKXhX_COg0StSCTsgf5RhURX5nUVrSRe_d3UsgsjMkYLUIjxSX2xkxebmw7bMFDlUShLYq7-PoDvqh_yAnUg77b/s1600/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdAHgqvbYerz7aZTs9E_iEniU-PXogL9V6W9PDMB3eXSUkm4DBhEIjgtKXhX_COg0StSCTsgf5RhURX5nUVrSRe_d3UsgsjMkYLUIjxSX2xkxebmw7bMFDlUShLYq7-PoDvqh_yAnUg77b/s640/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Believe it or not, the hardest part of making the pops is the time spent deciding how you want to decorate them and shopping for the supplies. Many of the ingredients you can pick up at your local grocery store or Target. For more variety in decorating supplies, I recommend taking a trip to your local Michael's or Joann's as well.<br />
<br />
<strong><u>Ingredients</u></strong>:<br />
<br />
<li>Box of Brownie Mix & Ingredients to Make Brownies per Box</li>
<li>Lollipop Sticks</li>
<li>Wilton Candy Eyes</li>
<li>Wilton Candy Melts - I used melts in Black, Vibrant Green, Orange, and Lavender.</li>
<li>2 Boxes of Baker's Premium White Chocolate Baking Bar (4oz Box) </li>
<li>Twizzler's Black Licorice Nibs (For Frankenstein's Bolts)</li>
<li>Wax Paper</li>
<li>Mini Pretzel Twists</li>
<li>Styrofoam Square</li>
<li>Toothpicks</li>
<u><strong></strong></u><br />
<u><strong></strong></u><br />
<u><strong>Instructions</strong></u>:<br />
<br />
To make the brownie pops, I used the Brownie Pop Recipe by Betty Crocker linked <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/rainbow-sprinkled-brownie-pops/9092033e-831d-4011-b056-11bc4a097d1a" target="_blank">here</a>. Below, I have listed some helpful tips/tricks when making the brownie pops (incorporate these into the recipe's instructions if you would like). Also, I have listed specifics on how I made each pop into a Halloween character - Mummy, Frankenstein, Jack-O-Lantern, and Three-eyed Monster, and how to make the cute gift box to display the pops:<br />
<br />
<u>Tips/Tricks</u>:<br />
<br />
1) I recommend adding an extra egg to the batter. It will help with forming the cake pops later.<br />
<br />
2) After the brownies have cooled, remove any hard edges from the brownie pan. I did this by cutting one large rectangle in the pan excluding 1/4" from each side of the pan.<br />
<br />
4) Cut the brownies while in the pan into 1.5" squares - each square can be rolled into a ball and ensures each pop will be the same size.<br />
<br />
5) Add additional flavor by adding a few butterscotch chips or white chocolate chips to the melted candy mixtures.<br />
<br />
6) Use white chocolate with food coloring instead of colored candy melts. If using chocolate chips, add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for every cup of chips when melting. See additional info on melting chocolate <a href="http://www.theyummylife.com/recipes/26/Melted+Chocolate+for+Dipping+and+Drizzling+(Microwave+Method)" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
7) Cover decorated pops with mini clear treat bags and close using twine or ribbon.<br />
<br />
<u>Decorating Pops as Halloween Characters</u>:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijlKvOHP1KYOUkgRl0k8nmTiHmbWWVz7ywirmI2rLzejZv-DsusbTryynQbejWT1yK36QTPdyH6GNzuo_Ao7vgdwdZIybMM3ADhc63fKNNvUqrsRtG9vt5pLy85rMnV_drW43RhetiNnal/s1600/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijlKvOHP1KYOUkgRl0k8nmTiHmbWWVz7ywirmI2rLzejZv-DsusbTryynQbejWT1yK36QTPdyH6GNzuo_Ao7vgdwdZIybMM3ADhc63fKNNvUqrsRtG9vt5pLy85rMnV_drW43RhetiNnal/s640/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u>Mummy</u> - Dip pops into melted white chocolate. Add candy eyeballs before chocolate hardens. Place pops into refrigerator for 30 minutes so chocolate hardens. After cooled, add strips of melted white chocolate to create the mummy (tip: over a bowl, let the melted chocolate drip off a spoon onto the pops while you turn them). Cool in refrigerator for another 30 minutes. After cooled, add the mouth using a toothpick dipped in melted black candy.<br />
<br />
<u>Frankenstein</u> - Cut Black Licorice Nibs into two pieces using a scissors. Dip pops into melted green candy. Add bolts (Nibs) and candy eyeballs before chocolate hardens. Place pops into refrigerator for 30 minutes so chocolate hardens. After cooled, add strips of melted black candy to the top of the pops to give Frankenstein hair. Add the mouth and scars using a toothpick dipped in melted black candy.<br />
<br />
<u>Jack-O-Lantern</u> - Break mini pretzel twists into pieces that look like pumpkin stems. Dip pops into melted orange candy. Add pretzel stems and candy eyeballs before chocolate hardens. Place pops into refrigerator for 30 minutes so chocolate hardens. After cooled, add the mouth using a toothpick dipped in melted black candy.<br />
<br />
<u>Three-Eyed Monster</u> - Dip pops into melted purple candy. Add candy eyeballs before chocolate hardens. Place pops into refrigerator for 30 minutes so chocolate hardens. After cooled, add the mouth using a toothpick dipped in melted black candy.<br />
<br />
<u><strong>Lollipop Gift Box</strong></u>:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWCykIVRkMacBZ5baya-okOMDrXZzAyQK6qLfpbzODOXm5QiAWsSQtWkQBz-3A1mjNXZOblx3D5kvdPuMGIHKnXzWOkrmbuoRPpuF0apyTtC8hi_9VBHJnldEUrtiYml7ZkoLJljfoMc79/s1600/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWCykIVRkMacBZ5baya-okOMDrXZzAyQK6qLfpbzODOXm5QiAWsSQtWkQBz-3A1mjNXZOblx3D5kvdPuMGIHKnXzWOkrmbuoRPpuF0apyTtC8hi_9VBHJnldEUrtiYml7ZkoLJljfoMc79/s640/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The box, fence, bat, and pumpkins are digital die-cuts (SVGs) by SVG Cuts. If you don't have a electronic die-cutting machine, you could use a small gift box and pop small holes in the top to place the pops - just make sure you place Styrofoam inside the box to hold the pops in place.<br />
<br />
For SVGs users, cut and assemble the box, bat, and pumpkins based on the default size setting of the file. The box is from the <a href="http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=339" target="_blank">For My Valentine SVG Kit.</a> The bat and pumpkins are from the <a href="http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=325" target="_blank">Spooky Cuties SVG Collection</a>. To make the fence that goes around the box, I used the fence from the <a href="http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43&products_id=277" target="_blank">Elmhurst Hollow SVG Kit</a> and resized it to 7.25W x 3.862H in SCAL (note: delete the extra wood strips before sizing as you don't need these). Cut the fence out twice and glue around the box so the ends come together on each side of the box.<br />
<br />
Add brads or black pearl stickers to the middle of the bat's and pumpkins' eyes - this makes them look like the candy eyeballs on the brownie pops! Also, add a sentiment to the box if you would like.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNkssu-i6cNQhNTCZGXKWBxFYmVYl0R7iYgr3mlgQ-ra18UOxgXcle7VypzQ2BXEDj5mbCJFBtxuPGDXdhxTljjgykymF73dPLeLaeW5NhAhSzBdnhsJLBS0Zc0NlSv0Q-6304pXA8udh7/s1600/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNkssu-i6cNQhNTCZGXKWBxFYmVYl0R7iYgr3mlgQ-ra18UOxgXcle7VypzQ2BXEDj5mbCJFBtxuPGDXdhxTljjgykymF73dPLeLaeW5NhAhSzBdnhsJLBS0Zc0NlSv0Q-6304pXA8udh7/s640/Halloween+Brownie+Pops-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Your brownie pops and gift box are ready for someone special to take home! I hope you enjoyed this project and give these pops a try! They are sure to make someone smile!<br />

<br />
I have been so busy researching my family heritage that I haven't had much time to craft or blog. I have really missed playing with paper and staying connected with all of you, my crafty friends. <br />
<br />
I got a little time to craft with my nephew yesterday and thought I would share the card he and I made for his mom/my sister.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpnzbS1oBlr7xpomDpxNeuhq4G7TMFSkd1IHacWFzl2YJuAxn0la32BFNM4jdLIw6dqKNszdZpDhDpRlDSLHtQJ-cnJFnIHGMLcwJL3iYMhjka1KdPHAS-7TaRxgc8ttwCIxcD0Zsare5j/s1600/TPR+EEK+Card+by+Karim_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpnzbS1oBlr7xpomDpxNeuhq4G7TMFSkd1IHacWFzl2YJuAxn0la32BFNM4jdLIw6dqKNszdZpDhDpRlDSLHtQJ-cnJFnIHGMLcwJL3iYMhjka1KdPHAS-7TaRxgc8ttwCIxcD0Zsare5j/s640/TPR+EEK+Card+by+Karim_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My nephew really liked the spider web and spider SVGs from the Lettering Delights <a href="http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=http://www.letteringdelights.com/clipart:little_boo-ligans_accents-11604.html&AID=41476" target="_blank">Little Boo-ligans Accent Cut It Set</a> so we made those the focus of the card. He also picked out the colors - hence the orange eyes!!!! :)<br />

<br />
I made the card a circle shape so the spider web would really pop on the card and we added a little EEK! flag. To make the flag, we used a little flyer and alpha stickers from the October Afternoon Witch Hazel collection and some twine from the Farmhouse collection.<br />

Check out the super creative note on the inside:<br />

Don't you just love what my nephew did with the letters to bring them to life in a spooky way? This was totally his idea and it turned out so cute! The "e" is supposed to be a zombie! BTW - I didn't help him with spelling - that would take away some of the cuteness factor!<br />
<br />
Here is a pic of my nephew with the completed card! :)<br />

I was very fortunate to Guest Design for them last April - you can see what I made with their AWESOME products <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/thepaperretreat/october-afternoon-projects/" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
<br />
I went to the October Afternoon Warehouse Sale for the first time last year and because I know how awesome it is, I made sure to mark my calendar for this year's sale so I wouldn't miss it!<br />
<br />
Last year, I went to the sale on it's opening night and it was fun (you can read my blog from last year <a href="http://www.thepaperretreat.blogspot.com/2012/10/october-afternoon-warehouse-sale-what.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>)! This year, I didn't get to the sale until the second day - the earliest I could get there! I am sure I missed out on some great items as they do say to shop early and often. I will surely be stopping by again on Sunday to pick up those items I should have got (and can't get out of my head), to see if there are any new items I have to have, and fingers crossed - maybe some slashed prices! (UPDATE 9/22/13: I bought more goodies on Sunday and OA didn't disappoint! Some prices had dropped and I found some items I had to have!)<br />
<br />
The warehouse sale is in Apple Valley, MN - not too far from where I live - about a 30 minute drive. The sale features great bargains on old and new October Afternoon collections. The newest collection at the sale was Travel Girl which I was very excited about as I didn't have any in my collection yet! This year there was a bargain room; however, I thought everything was fairly priced throughout the entire warehouse. Below, I share what I picked up at the sale along with the bargain prices I paid!<br />
<br />
First up, I grabbed as much Travel Girl as I could find! I got the 8x8 paper pad for $5, brads for $2.50, buttons for $1, washi tape for $1.50, and the miscellany pack for $2. For spending over $50 at the sale, I got the 12x12 patterned paper pack for FREE!!!! This was a nice surprise and very generous of Mr. and Mrs. October Afternoon! Can't wait to play with these goodies!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8DBblURU7SPtkMMQJ4fjLCqP-bLIAygSCZh2_zzVwxQpkOTUgn-Cxq8CkdwRnVqdGUpl7Rqpc9HI5l8J9dIB5WFJLHErZUZ52LVwqNsJqawhBIYtCBk-RVruukPHaMHlcr-IRR5mY0YnB/s1600/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8DBblURU7SPtkMMQJ4fjLCqP-bLIAygSCZh2_zzVwxQpkOTUgn-Cxq8CkdwRnVqdGUpl7Rqpc9HI5l8J9dIB5WFJLHErZUZ52LVwqNsJqawhBIYtCBk-RVruukPHaMHlcr-IRR5mY0YnB/s640/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up, I picked up 30 sheets of Sticky Keys/Mini Market Alpha Stickers! They were $3 for 5 sheets! I usually pay $2.50 per sheet for these yummies. The sale had most of the varieties that have been released so I surely stocked up!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisOiLsCg7N7Jflh30HT3FtHbnlbBVQ6uZ0_ok5W9XAfOLRVRj7zL-b3OcSKezegaF47mzckbjmLDIG_0H2RY0woC0e37JeDkcrNKVHWVHT47EJRZTt8W67ltAbMPxHfC98UQxP2Zg-OqFA/s1600/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisOiLsCg7N7Jflh30HT3FtHbnlbBVQ6uZ0_ok5W9XAfOLRVRj7zL-b3OcSKezegaF47mzckbjmLDIG_0H2RY0woC0e37JeDkcrNKVHWVHT47EJRZTt8W67ltAbMPxHfC98UQxP2Zg-OqFA/s640/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up, I got these sample sized papers from older collections - I am guessing these were used at CHA as sales samples? These were a steal at 25 sheets for $1!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHXuReapsPLMZ8fVV0oCIwND4DEJhnuXa-SwSqW4qqMelB25eiwgJxtlTzEBHRs5pAIRDPJKlUJlBjKFmHSPjke9IuEze3xIFTDa7FSPMY8oeksxw8mJLdB4wJGJRVDmHwszUmaMuVjaOq/s1600/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHXuReapsPLMZ8fVV0oCIwND4DEJhnuXa-SwSqW4qqMelB25eiwgJxtlTzEBHRs5pAIRDPJKlUJlBjKFmHSPjke9IuEze3xIFTDa7FSPMY8oeksxw8mJLdB4wJGJRVDmHwszUmaMuVjaOq/s640/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I also stocked up on goodies from a variety of collections. From Witch Hazel, I grabbed the Sprinklers for 2 for $5, the miscellany pack for $2, washi tape for $1.50, chipboard shapes for $2, and tin pins for 2 for $3. From Sasparilla, I got the 8x8 paper pad for $2 and the trims pack for $1. I got a couple other miscellaneous items too - buttons from Farm Girl and Midway at $1 each, brads from Make it Merry for $2.50 and a 12x12 paper pack for $1!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUEOE3bjAjdwKhT4iGzn42JHnleIm8Ff0oYmHWEAW1i-8m6rB2dqgCmgSHO0A0Y9uJzwyKXyzlFQaQcz1uBJiGaX6xlKYlsH9WnUqiGx2Hhcl78AVja0cgSiIVPjyQLTfJ40a3qijDuNNg/s1600/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUEOE3bjAjdwKhT4iGzn42JHnleIm8Ff0oYmHWEAW1i-8m6rB2dqgCmgSHO0A0Y9uJzwyKXyzlFQaQcz1uBJiGaX6xlKYlsH9WnUqiGx2Hhcl78AVja0cgSiIVPjyQLTfJ40a3qijDuNNg/s640/OA+Warehouse+Sale+2013-3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
There were loads of goodies to chose from so making the final selections to purchase was difficult! If you are in the area, I hope you are able to make the sale. The selections and bargains were terrific and the employees were all very pleasant and helpful. You are sure to be smiling ear-to-ear when you walk into the warehouse!<br />

I spent the day with my family celebrating my nephew's birthday - he is now 10 years old!!!! Boy, he has grown up fast! I made him a fun mustache card and mini box for his birthday. The 'stache' box holds all the money he got for his birthday - get it "my stache!" :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLgPtub3sFnPC4tnX_SF46phmgtbC6eLguRnekf1KDVCUsF14vV_8sog0zjlGwpMc1Qi3QT5PL066BproceOVGJHARTHhBScQBVyr5KQTiYSNgfQa3PsEXjSDSTnZmacyLh5R7wwRjdmkc/s1600/Mustache+Card+&+Box-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLgPtub3sFnPC4tnX_SF46phmgtbC6eLguRnekf1KDVCUsF14vV_8sog0zjlGwpMc1Qi3QT5PL066BproceOVGJHARTHhBScQBVyr5KQTiYSNgfQa3PsEXjSDSTnZmacyLh5R7wwRjdmkc/s640/Mustache+Card+&+Box-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To create the card, I used <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&filter_name=mustache&product_id=630" target="_blank">Lori Whitlock's Mustache SVG Set</a>. I left the mustaches in the same order they were in the SVG file making it so easy to create the card! I resized the SVG file to fit a 4.5x5.5 card, cut it out on white card stock, and then pasted strips of patterned paper behind some of the mustaches. You may be asking, what collection is the adorable paper from? Well, it is the Swagger Collection by Fancy Pants. Absolutely love this collection and all of the 'staches' in it - I definitely pulled inspiration from it!<br />
<br />
To create the mini box, I used <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&filter_name=mustache&product_id=630" target="_blank">Lori's Mustache SVG</a> set again as well as <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&filter_name=ghost&product_id=385" target="_blank">Lori's Ghost Window Box</a>. In SCAL, I removed the ghost from the top of the box and added 3 mustaches to create a fun die-cut pattern on the top of the box! Once I assembled the box, I added some white card stock to the back of the top of the box to make the mustaches pop. To finish off the box, I added a button from the Swagger Collection with the perfect sentiment on it and added two strips of paper underneath the button to make it look like a ribbon.<br />
<br />
My nephew definitely loved these (my sister may have loved even more)!!! <br />
<br />
I hope you'll have a great week!<br />

<br />
I am so happy to be back on my blog sharing the start of my family heritage scrapbook (the title page that is!). My mom, sister, and I have been getting together a lot lately to research our family heritage - which by the way has been very interesting! I have been using Ancestry.com to lay out my family's tree, and there have been lots of interesting facts I have found along the way. For instance, one of my ancestors and his wife were one of the first families to come to America. They were Amish and started what is now called Pennsylvania Dutch country. Three of their children fought in the Revolutionary War and, there is a book that is published about him and his family! Pretty cool stuff!<br />
<br />
Given the theme of this scrapbook is family heritage, I am going all out to make sure it looks vintage. My Tim Holtz products, Unity Stamps, and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist are coming in really handy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXC3o8QEzPIBts1eRDjfw2buRQ6RdzYH_B2TsEMH_xS6qkKMkyrNA6LK45SKIMY6PYPgNffwuSPIF6gXT3UGI85LHv4yaBgYw4nFr6YPwgRgW4goPByyvXnvxSLZ705V1-wicZD3tA_Do_/s1600/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="638" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXC3o8QEzPIBts1eRDjfw2buRQ6RdzYH_B2TsEMH_xS6qkKMkyrNA6LK45SKIMY6PYPgNffwuSPIF6gXT3UGI85LHv4yaBgYw4nFr6YPwgRgW4goPByyvXnvxSLZ705V1-wicZD3tA_Do_/s640/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For the title page, I used papers from two different collections - Echo Park's Reflections by Lori Whitlock and Heidi Swapp's No Limits. Together, these two collections create a nice mixed media feel. I added some old dictionary paper in the background as well. Also, I created a checkered pattern on the base layer (turquoise) using glimmer mist and burlap.<br />
<br />
To ensure a vintage look, I wrinkled up the papers and used my Tim Holtz Paper Distress Tool and lots of Distress Ink in Tea Dye.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxcuIsJlnU2HEB0qPIKzXuBRprJVquxkMfcmzKphJ8yHejJFGroc8bA57HiHHlWY7HjcbZKV4cXEyoVgCxjhqayqQigua2Pmy3dfWrIrTSz69t9KchhSNDtXsZGpSXsk1X1Jo91UJzp8zE/s1600/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-3+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxcuIsJlnU2HEB0qPIKzXuBRprJVquxkMfcmzKphJ8yHejJFGroc8bA57HiHHlWY7HjcbZKV4cXEyoVgCxjhqayqQigua2Pmy3dfWrIrTSz69t9KchhSNDtXsZGpSXsk1X1Jo91UJzp8zE/s640/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-3+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For the title, I used the Reflections collection to create the word 'Family.' I cut it out of one of the 12x12 papers, then cut it into three horizontal pieces to give it some texture. I love the effect this gave it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2MQOUSSNd3_0jv5Ieklh0Gk9ic4G5fPhb2YeWHtzO3mk2vtrWkqxvqZoP2O4ZZDgK0ZWuYdUDQvrZdWnkhUUa8AY6w_lWPcZ5Vq2orsIfZq_Ix-Uch70DXa2s9l8o0PU-ifROGF0ZFpQi/s1600/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-2+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2MQOUSSNd3_0jv5Ieklh0Gk9ic4G5fPhb2YeWHtzO3mk2vtrWkqxvqZoP2O4ZZDgK0ZWuYdUDQvrZdWnkhUUa8AY6w_lWPcZ5Vq2orsIfZq_Ix-Uch70DXa2s9l8o0PU-ifROGF0ZFpQi/s640/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-2+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The word 'Heritage' was created using a Papertrey Ink alpha die along with lots of Glimmer Mist.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2MQOUSSNd3_0jv5Ieklh0Gk9ic4G5fPhb2YeWHtzO3mk2vtrWkqxvqZoP2O4ZZDgK0ZWuYdUDQvrZdWnkhUUa8AY6w_lWPcZ5Vq2orsIfZq_Ix-Uch70DXa2s9l8o0PU-ifROGF0ZFpQi/s1600/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-2+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBzKK_6UewghGN9ZgtRsFwTxaJn4k_ZrpQURZqYewjL1UUGDxqgDCRdoAHdia52qNzcdbWlHgNzI-Ik-cgK_X_-ZaIqZYQWjQp0B8u2iktWUwhfJmdnOykj4ZWJajWmbFPMSYk57ZO5iLz/s1600/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-4+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBzKK_6UewghGN9ZgtRsFwTxaJn4k_ZrpQURZqYewjL1UUGDxqgDCRdoAHdia52qNzcdbWlHgNzI-Ik-cgK_X_-ZaIqZYQWjQp0B8u2iktWUwhfJmdnOykj4ZWJajWmbFPMSYk57ZO5iLz/s640/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-4+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I couldn't imagine this page without keys and a clock so I added these elements as well. The key stamped image is from Unity Stamp's Aug 2012 Kit of the Month. I created the clock hands using SVG's from Lettering Delights (I would share a link to the SVG collection, but it was clearanced out a couple months ago).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijCpwq8_almhkAsM461N8Uyv_rjBMV120N_Oq_BOYtFbUsSQmnQS_yR-7mLIIFy57wEsVfpBYi1QNJZFv2mfgm2hMl_Tz4feNyQAzWWq4UtfJ28styeoOeaAvArRXizT287Pv_NfkgsCKp/s1600/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-5+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijCpwq8_almhkAsM461N8Uyv_rjBMV120N_Oq_BOYtFbUsSQmnQS_yR-7mLIIFy57wEsVfpBYi1QNJZFv2mfgm2hMl_Tz4feNyQAzWWq4UtfJ28styeoOeaAvArRXizT287Pv_NfkgsCKp/s400/JB+Family+Hertitage_Page1-5+copy.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, I had to add a quote that speaks to what ancestry is all about. I used Microsoft word to create the quote, then printed it out and cut it into strips.<br />
<br />
I hope this page has you grabbing for your vintage tools and supplies! I will share more pages from my family heritage scrapbook in the coming weeks.<br />
<br />
Happy Friday ya'll!<br />

The weather is warming up a little bit in Minnesota, though we are a long way from it feeling like Spring here. My driveway is an ice skating rink!!!!<br />
<br />
Today I wanted to share a card I made using scraps from the Echo Park This & That Charming collection. I love this collection - the color palette can be masculine or feminine. My life has turned upside down over the last few months, so I felt like making a card that exudes encouragement - "You are Brave, Clever, Strong."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikcDEHqEaSA2xT6imBlPCaTTfkEfI1u2ZBZxXJn96San1z529E2nNAYrzbtrNPzc1NIhtbWwOwSIb8gFmRDh9G_6Yyetr2i5o_dPNysYtVLjZl64YiVrKITnS6LeyoRx5qUbXgqxx7t2qr/s1600/IMG_6506_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikcDEHqEaSA2xT6imBlPCaTTfkEfI1u2ZBZxXJn96San1z529E2nNAYrzbtrNPzc1NIhtbWwOwSIb8gFmRDh9G_6Yyetr2i5o_dPNysYtVLjZl64YiVrKITnS6LeyoRx5qUbXgqxx7t2qr/s640/IMG_6506_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I had lots and lots of fun playing with the papers in the collection. I cut out the banner from the "Border Strips" paper, got it wet, crumbled it up, then layered them on top of each other. I love the effect it created!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrCGeA0tFnkmonhFjdusVAOwTqpVbXcsomdfzUKDBTIKsQJPZee8Quo9yt-B2u-uQ9dO5BI_LEcYlJ6usgpetlOozqodp8ky-VqPJyfCZemxdeI9UA6CKlszsZCxPt6kej4E0ZKQkMALAq/s1600/IMG_6531_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrCGeA0tFnkmonhFjdusVAOwTqpVbXcsomdfzUKDBTIKsQJPZee8Quo9yt-B2u-uQ9dO5BI_LEcYlJ6usgpetlOozqodp8ky-VqPJyfCZemxdeI9UA6CKlszsZCxPt6kej4E0ZKQkMALAq/s640/IMG_6531_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The word cards are cut from the "Primer" paper. For the background of the card, I used several papers from the collection. I love creating my own backgrounds using multiple patterns - it always seems to make the card pop!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9UCnrfMhlUA76Gt2tBLJix-xyUf4k2u1jEiwlm-s6JmhS5o5MaGwNqjyjIznYu1Qh22waXpEZEZj07ZlDzhbCcCOnqc1n3QAasJGgO_oT6emXhc3oSsZ12s8f8WBt6DsuagHucUQ1qYJj/s1600/IMG_6527_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9UCnrfMhlUA76Gt2tBLJix-xyUf4k2u1jEiwlm-s6JmhS5o5MaGwNqjyjIznYu1Qh22waXpEZEZj07ZlDzhbCcCOnqc1n3QAasJGgO_oT6emXhc3oSsZ12s8f8WBt6DsuagHucUQ1qYJj/s640/IMG_6527_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
To finish the card off, I added some Caribbean twine from The Twinery. I am playing with the <a href="http://www.thetwineryblog.com/2013/03/the-twinery-challenge-its-banner-day.html" target="_blank">banners challenge at The Twinery blog</a>!<br />

I am finally getting around to making something for the <a href="http://timholtz.com/tattered-floral-challenge/" target="_blank">Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Challenge</a> - only one day left to enter!!!!!<br />
<br />
My papercrafting style changes depending on the materials I use (at least I think it does). I love cute and fun, and I love vintage and my Tim Holtz products! I consider the card I made for this challenge to fall in the latter. I used the Tattered Floral Die by Sizzix/Tim Holtz to make the pretty tissue and tulle flower on this card. As you may have guessed, using this die is a requirement for the challenge. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrAxJFrBxIGfzpXfow5EWkMOu88hTJTYys6_Hgrbx4TXHB0zu2hScKM2WMWoCNKC1QoH3QFFQ-sJpCwlVRqNUErGzanJLQor1wKgSQPTrkP-02VeXhUb0xHmgcEkY41vht942oq8f7iN9t/s1600/IMG_6371_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrAxJFrBxIGfzpXfow5EWkMOu88hTJTYys6_Hgrbx4TXHB0zu2hScKM2WMWoCNKC1QoH3QFFQ-sJpCwlVRqNUErGzanJLQor1wKgSQPTrkP-02VeXhUb0xHmgcEkY41vht942oq8f7iN9t/s640/IMG_6371_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
To make the flower, I cut 2 of the largest flower and 4 of the medium flower. The tissue I used is called "Terminology" by Tim Holtz Idea-ology. It cut very easily with the die - it has a waxy texture so it doesn't rip easily! I colored the flower cuts with colored misting spray and while wet, crinkled them up. Once dry, I unfolded the cuts, then layered them on top of each other (the largest flower cuts on the bottom). I also layered in some tulle to give the flower more dimension and added distress ink and liquid pearls to the edges, tissue leaves, and a pretty button to the center.<br />
<br />

Today I am sharing a gift box I made for someone that has been there for me through all of my recent struggles (and there have been many). I will share my story at some point in the near future - I am not ready yet. I am so thankful that I am able to craft and share my projects with you all - it lifts me up!<br />
<br />
The gift box has a sweet little barn on the top of it! Isn't it cute! The gift box and fence are from the <a href="http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=335/affiliates/jrox.php?id=3599_1_bid_9" target="_blank">Santa's Village SVG collection by SVG Cuts</a>! All SVG collections at <a href="http://www.svgcuts.com/affiliates/jrox.php?id=3599_1_bid_9" target="_blank">SVG Cuts</a> are on sale for 25% off - use coupon code SPRING2013! A great time to pick up SVG collections you have been wanting! <br />
<br />
I added lots of fun details to this. When I start with the little details, I sometimes have a hard time stopping with them! This gift box is cute from all angles - make sure to see all of the pics below! There is a garden on one side of the barn and chickens on the other, and a little surprise inside! :)<br />

<u>More Details</u>:<br />
<br />
I used embossing to create the worn look of the barn and it's roof. Love texture!<br />

Today, I am sharing an adorable Easter card I made with the cutest bunny ever. He is a SVG from the <a href="http://www.myscrapchick.com/product.cfm?product=303" target="_blank">Easter Bunnies collection by My Scrap Chick</a>. Isn't he cute!!!!!! I am gonna name him Peter for purposes of this post! LOL!<br />

I used paper from the Farm Girl collection by October Afternoon. Love this collection! The jar of carrots that Peter is holding is part of this collection as well (cut from the paper).<br />
<br />
The "happy" stamp is from a past SMAK kit by Unity Stamps and the letter stickers used for "Easter" are by October Afternoon.<br />

Today, I am sharing a card I made using all of these!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYaaj-JkrimsGr43R6ltc5bDPExn5KGgD-2thwLblOt31E5tz-sv2byVmMO2OM3hlGTBLrCO0Qnvfy7mT4oCDXqaScaR8eUPg22BHKCpGeekXGbmQdMKeN-nQ03GZO9-OUogWc0FHgAxJs/s1600/Call+Me+Card+by+Mel+Seipp_TPR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYaaj-JkrimsGr43R6ltc5bDPExn5KGgD-2thwLblOt31E5tz-sv2byVmMO2OM3hlGTBLrCO0Qnvfy7mT4oCDXqaScaR8eUPg22BHKCpGeekXGbmQdMKeN-nQ03GZO9-OUogWc0FHgAxJs/s1600/Call+Me+Card+by+Mel+Seipp_TPR.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I was recently looking at the October Afternoon blog and I was inspired by some fun cards using the 9 to 5 collection. You can see these cards <a href="http://octoberafternoon.typepad.com/october_afternoon/2013/02/business-cards-with-michelle.html" target="_blank">here</a>. The papers in the 9 to 5 collection are so colorful and retro, and they worked perfectly with the telephone themed stamps and SVGs I used for this card.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I cut the 'telephone index' paper in multiple pieces and layered them to make it look like an actual tabbed index. There aren't any contacts listed in the index - I thought about adding some, then decided to keep it blank so it didn't take away from the rest of the card. Sometimes too many details is not a good thing.<br />
<br />
The telephone dial background stamp is from the Unity Stamps November 2011 SMAK kit and the 'call me' sentiment is from the February 2013 Kit of the Month.<br />
<br />
The phone and scalloped frames are SVGs from the <a href="http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/clipart:good_company-9833.html&AID=41476" target="_blank">Good Company collection by Lettering Delights</a>.<br />

I hope you do! :) I am still around - I just haven't been able to craft the last couple months. Life has been challenging and crazy for me, and I am hoping it gets better soon.<br />
<br />
Today I am sharing a card I made for a dear friend that has been struggling a lot lately. I chose to embellish the card with butterflies because they symbolize hope and have that uplifting quality. I was inspired by the <a href="http://www.theunitystampco-challenge.blogspot.com/2013/02/brand-new-created-every-month-by-our.html" target="_blank">February "Be Inspired" Unity Stamps Challenge</a> - the sketch and the colors. I love, LOVE, love my Unity stamps and used several for this card! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEsS_0NTpcZ5CB489yN4-Au7a85sPifoa2h0iB8ASmV3gkHAFJuDsWRsHWWnGvFcliqyydBZ0ejQLB60eRqPBqq5JO8LFY_CdfG9dcMF5ng5UTbSxdacaT6tI8f65iPvl3plwlpFmtGjAL/s1600/IMG_6049_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEsS_0NTpcZ5CB489yN4-Au7a85sPifoa2h0iB8ASmV3gkHAFJuDsWRsHWWnGvFcliqyydBZ0ejQLB60eRqPBqq5JO8LFY_CdfG9dcMF5ng5UTbSxdacaT6tI8f65iPvl3plwlpFmtGjAL/s640/IMG_6049_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPxW5TdkdhIPBOPlHqRbGB96sy5ffTCseEy-3bD8VMC6cS6PLpJf4CnDIsInD96c_0zQoneF37Pb4TYHcIJpRnz15z4JVVEO9h_DEkUjK7f8Ys319Dx_bkTwJzHflTn7bdUE7tiU0zBLW7/s1600/IMG_6031_1+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPxW5TdkdhIPBOPlHqRbGB96sy5ffTCseEy-3bD8VMC6cS6PLpJf4CnDIsInD96c_0zQoneF37Pb4TYHcIJpRnz15z4JVVEO9h_DEkUjK7f8Ys319Dx_bkTwJzHflTn7bdUE7tiU0zBLW7/s640/IMG_6031_1+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I created the background for this card using many of my craft supplies. I used a misting mask, spray ink, dictionary paper, distress ink, a doily punch and Unity stamps. I love creating my own backgrounds! I love being able to mix different patterns and colors to get the perfect, yet imperfect vintagy look. Not sure "vintagy" is a word, but I am thinking you know what I mean! :)<br />
<br />
I was also inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest that had a multi-colored stacked paper butterfly. You can see the card I was inspired by <a href="http://tmcuccia.blogspot.com/2012/10/follow-your-dreams.html?m=1" target="_blank">here</a>. I decided to create a similar butterfly for my card! <br />

I am sure there will be lots of last minute Christmas shopping (at least I still have some shopping to do!), and holiday parties! I spent the day celebrating Christmas with my mom's side and we certainly had fun! Lots of smiling and laughing and for some reason, my husband, the comedian, is usually the initiator! One of the many reasons I love him so much!<br />
<br />
As some of you may know, I lost my maternal grandfather a little over a year ago. I was responsible for creating the photo boards for his funeral - they turned out beautiful - you can see them <a href="http://thepaperretreat.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-love-you-grandpa-and-happy-veterans.html" target="_blank">here</a>. So this year for Christmas, I decided to give everyone in my family CDs containing all of the photos I had gathered as well as all of the documents my grandmother had given me about our family's heritage. I couldn't think of a better gift and my family was definitely appreciative.<br />
<br />
I put the CDs in envelopes I created using the <a href="http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=30&products_id=270" target="_blank">Summer Blockbuster SVG kit by SVG Cuts</a> and decorated them using the snowflake from the <a href="http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=330&zenid=39e0471c46dec523e19c9aa36ba9ce86" target="_blank">Clara's Christmas Eve SVG kit by SVG Cuts</a>. I added the sentiment 'Merry Christmas' from the stamp set "More Merry Messages" by Stampin' Up! and pearls to the snowflakes to make them pop! The papers I used for the envelopes are from the "Sweet Dreams Holiday Avenue" collection by My Mind's Eye.<br />

Guest Designer at Lori Whitlock!Hey there! I have a wonderful project to share with you today! I hope you love it, take some inspiration from it, and/or make one of your own!<br />
<br />
I am the Guest Designer over at the <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/blog/christmas-village-by-guest-designer-melanie-fink/" target="_blank">Lori Whitlock blog</a> today!<br />
<br />

<br />
If you are not familiar with Lori Whitlock, she designs very professional <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=common/home" target="_blank">SVG files</a>, Echo Park paper, and digital scrapbooking kits available at <a href="http://www.jessicasprague.com/" target="_blank">Jessica Sprague</a>. She is extremely talented and I love that she designs so many fun 3D SVG files. I had a very hard time picking what I was going to make from her store!<br />
<br />
To forewarn you, I have lots of photos below. I added lots of tiny details to this project and want to show you every inch of them! I hope you can bare with me! Also, at the bottom of this post, I have a tutorial on how to make your very own snow for your projects using materials you should have around the house!<br />
<br />
Okay, enough with the introduction.....here is my project! A Country Christmas Village!<br />

<br />
I couldn't resist making the <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_76&product_id=653" target="_blank">3D Christmas Village</a> by Lori Whitlock! I know lots of people have been sharing villages they have made recently and they are all so adorable. I wanted to present something different so I challenged myself to make each building look like it was <u>not</u> made of paper (and they are of course!). I pictured the ceramic villages you can buy at the store that my mom has so many of!<br />
<br />
Here are a couple pictures of the village all lit up!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiif5xczzOD9_ilILHPoQz4mQz13_pj7R25TQOVGCQQjAbLPMEbAFGRH30x5qAAsKcn8uoY6Hksw8GyHzXGD29-uLtI0y1aMCW_BrRzOAo8ObQxkHvGmrqDMyqL0BlpM9i6b_N2VdmjLoA3/s1600/Village+MF_Lit+Up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiif5xczzOD9_ilILHPoQz4mQz13_pj7R25TQOVGCQQjAbLPMEbAFGRH30x5qAAsKcn8uoY6Hksw8GyHzXGD29-uLtI0y1aMCW_BrRzOAo8ObQxkHvGmrqDMyqL0BlpM9i6b_N2VdmjLoA3/s640/Village+MF_Lit+Up.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDK0izNwFx4HfI2QyjksvPPonfq6a5bTaWAUejKnOt472MKrkiuYLYykFRauiLpehElvoF7OTFP0cIJJYlWpTysIK2UhyO23ophxRD9XeiNDY8r8jy0uPridJzEr21WQyzHBh_BTd9ko9Z/s1600/Village+MF_Lit+Up2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDK0izNwFx4HfI2QyjksvPPonfq6a5bTaWAUejKnOt472MKrkiuYLYykFRauiLpehElvoF7OTFP0cIJJYlWpTysIK2UhyO23ophxRD9XeiNDY8r8jy0uPridJzEr21WQyzHBh_BTd9ko9Z/s640/Village+MF_Lit+Up2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It is really pretty at night as the light from our Christmas tree reflects off the glitter and trims on each building. <br />
<br />
To light up the village, I put flameless votives inside each building through the opened doors except for the cottage as the door is too small. I will show you how I put the votive inside the cottage below.<br />
<br />
Now for all of the tiny details I added to each building in the village! First up, The School House:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYnqmxXLedyorVN98sRaLYYgPMzSJUdvl19nBYypoTRqnbZVyAOE96qlcJz5ub_ctLqp95_jBc7SADE5e0jpUBh8d0lo0ZJa8A4mAebo4hsbodOW0-8A3uQohwMFPVwPYoW-_e5V2tx3sh/s1600/Village+MF_School.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYnqmxXLedyorVN98sRaLYYgPMzSJUdvl19nBYypoTRqnbZVyAOE96qlcJz5ub_ctLqp95_jBc7SADE5e0jpUBh8d0lo0ZJa8A4mAebo4hsbodOW0-8A3uQohwMFPVwPYoW-_e5V2tx3sh/s640/Village+MF_School.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
There are only pine trees in my village, so I thought it was appropriate to give the town the name "Pine Hill!" It sounds country too, which I like! :) The pine trees are SVG files by Lori Whitlock - <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_76&product_id=652" target="_blank">3D Christmas Tree #3</a> and <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_76&product_id=688" target="_blank">3D Christmas Tree #5</a>.<br />
<br />
I used the curved banner label from the <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=17_83&product_id=103" target="_blank">14 Labels SVG set</a> to add the school name above the school's door. It worked perfectly! I sized it to 2.239" wide by 0.741" tall. I printed the name out first, then cut the label out using the Print/Cut feature in SCAL.<br />
<br />
To create the wreath on the school, I first created a base using two punches from Stampin' Up! First, I punched out a 1/2" circle into my cardstock. Then, I centered the largest flower from the Boho Blossoms punch around the punched circle to create the wreath's base. Then, I glued holly leaves from Lori's <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_76&product_id=713" target="_blank">Christmas Icons Set 2</a> to the base. To finish the wreath, I added some red rhinestones.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaLwlx0V2GE3GHdBhpC-IWfQb8aO0RlIMut_2VtpRdR7UpdTRyBhZOV_yHfk2li50MAWjOEPXxpTmBpVdTI-st2ybXA-q0QhuLJBiYpVDheJEw8_T8KBWJP1XnuANu16G5pPCz5VxcryCL/s1600/Village+MF_School2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaLwlx0V2GE3GHdBhpC-IWfQb8aO0RlIMut_2VtpRdR7UpdTRyBhZOV_yHfk2li50MAWjOEPXxpTmBpVdTI-st2ybXA-q0QhuLJBiYpVDheJEw8_T8KBWJP1XnuANu16G5pPCz5VxcryCL/s640/Village+MF_School2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To add more holiday decor to the school, I used garland trimmings I found at Michael's. I applied the garland around the school door and created scallops around the school windows. I added Lori's <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_76&product_id=713" target="_blank">holly leaves</a> and red rhinestones to dress-up the garland.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfZCIQcU3126tigaVkxiUMeGKhZDo2FPPBrQ_dKSXkFyOsX-XF6NkEYJEpV-1sakrH5ukwMYGSEGS4uUD5N-XZA1VRS9pA6b-HqeRpjyYsbYge3VD5CJlUH5Uvgq3m-11bq7uR4ahYCuvc/s1600/Village+MF_School3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfZCIQcU3126tigaVkxiUMeGKhZDo2FPPBrQ_dKSXkFyOsX-XF6NkEYJEpV-1sakrH5ukwMYGSEGS4uUD5N-XZA1VRS9pA6b-HqeRpjyYsbYge3VD5CJlUH5Uvgq3m-11bq7uR4ahYCuvc/s640/Village+MF_School3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The tower on top of the school was made for a bell (so stinkin' cute, right!) - I found some small metal bells at Michael's in the holiday decor area. I hung the bell in the tower using gold crafting wire which I adhered to the top of the tower using a hot glue gun.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuafHtORJOY4zvVTdGNcVB7iPAGXisFG9rLRWxr6MxiwoIapZg6DNdYkIcLe8fVaYvsnu0R_WF4K6mWKS-mQfjKpJZGcdjeRDFm2hkRS-nomW-PMA80plz3x8BjcBYQvWet2-ZYRhGH3x4/s1600/Village+MF_School4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuafHtORJOY4zvVTdGNcVB7iPAGXisFG9rLRWxr6MxiwoIapZg6DNdYkIcLe8fVaYvsnu0R_WF4K6mWKS-mQfjKpJZGcdjeRDFm2hkRS-nomW-PMA80plz3x8BjcBYQvWet2-ZYRhGH3x4/s640/Village+MF_School4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And there is a little surprise inside of the school house. The back wall of the school house has a black board with a message that reads: "See you in the new year!" My teachers always said that when school was out for the holidays!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5TPjIJizZk2CMT0QsEKwK3shTBvZLKZDH5SgU2IQO0hrjkq_ZSo1sBTrpHxC0dRebE4z9a1-t-_jIXEmN7bHPx2AMZtQdXfvcyWVbFrjTAyb6BB1iOnJaKEshiNWepRQbJrt45Vl3B2Nd/s1600/Village+MF_School5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5TPjIJizZk2CMT0QsEKwK3shTBvZLKZDH5SgU2IQO0hrjkq_ZSo1sBTrpHxC0dRebE4z9a1-t-_jIXEmN7bHPx2AMZtQdXfvcyWVbFrjTAyb6BB1iOnJaKEshiNWepRQbJrt45Vl3B2Nd/s640/Village+MF_School5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up, The Church:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizOjg-dV2T62Rg1WVuk4CMxOxaU1oJvvgDoFx79Qp8lhtHsE5tRkwUU28l0QxGDw-ARlIVgbFBX_QPZHROPs9yf4oLsLRncLyfNDBEOPJIdErHg2QjkU8pDKrzutxbnU4sV3FgLWry-ret/s1600/Village+MF_Church.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizOjg-dV2T62Rg1WVuk4CMxOxaU1oJvvgDoFx79Qp8lhtHsE5tRkwUU28l0QxGDw-ARlIVgbFBX_QPZHROPs9yf4oLsLRncLyfNDBEOPJIdErHg2QjkU8pDKrzutxbnU4sV3FgLWry-ret/s640/Village+MF_Church.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To give the windows of the church a stained glass look, I stamp embossed onto vellum using the Lattice Background stamp by Unity Stamps for Jillibean Soup and gold glitter embossing powder by Martha Stewart Crafts. I love the way the windows turned out!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdg8_49IdqEVLmZcdtd5EIplitaqPwtPz2mtyv2S6yhQcfXVQFf2EWmP5dID5pW9N0IxQz2IxZCYqOoyNkbJJlFzQ48gtTx3aFUdOK54mJkaQpFL1niHyHvDEgYDvPW9H0nggfKcrHv6jQ/s1600/Village+MF_Church2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdg8_49IdqEVLmZcdtd5EIplitaqPwtPz2mtyv2S6yhQcfXVQFf2EWmP5dID5pW9N0IxQz2IxZCYqOoyNkbJJlFzQ48gtTx3aFUdOK54mJkaQpFL1niHyHvDEgYDvPW9H0nggfKcrHv6jQ/s640/Village+MF_Church2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To add texture and color to the cross in the window, I applied glitter glue in gold by Martha Stewart Crafts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZb-6vdKOfK93XVYNbtBbUFoMs0kgOVcBQLboxRxdvBkcF674g_s7ncvVlJhYSub4ywjo-Ev3Ix5VeVuGmrs76X81WrJwpXy3PNPCaKjsLCCkN2PwW8567lG2usMpM4AeGyeBMzo4dfI0V/s1600/Village+MF_Church3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZb-6vdKOfK93XVYNbtBbUFoMs0kgOVcBQLboxRxdvBkcF674g_s7ncvVlJhYSub4ywjo-Ev3Ix5VeVuGmrs76X81WrJwpXy3PNPCaKjsLCCkN2PwW8567lG2usMpM4AeGyeBMzo4dfI0V/s640/Village+MF_Church3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
There is a bell in the steeple too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGUeqGAdsPtACMPLH8z4jXQieNGhQZzVWck6ulq6kdPrWSfd4DeOSkp8n3QP_Aydhk0h9RwTf1PXB4VyqgHmBGD8-hCtQkcq9GD42mTAJN6SPgNGOQvR0_HFsZniot_MheawetdbNSgCwW/s1600/Village+MF_Church4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGUeqGAdsPtACMPLH8z4jXQieNGhQZzVWck6ulq6kdPrWSfd4DeOSkp8n3QP_Aydhk0h9RwTf1PXB4VyqgHmBGD8-hCtQkcq9GD42mTAJN6SPgNGOQvR0_HFsZniot_MheawetdbNSgCwW/s640/Village+MF_Church4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For the final touch, I created a standing sign with a message board for the church. I thought the message "Merry Christmas" was perfect for the sign. I added some snow, glitter, holly and rhinestones to embellish the sign.<br />

Last and not least, The Cottage:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8esJo0HU-uNLUTnM8E90XI56t1lBr8bUlPRt4k8QgoeLk6uZhKNnxH2WDw6kOOf434b7N22BLZNBJSKn36EHoKREKIY1tOXIZAkRqMTruy0mAuU9uHrDqVoEQRPcD9c3Eb_DCJGLOSaKC/s1600/Village+MF_Cottage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8esJo0HU-uNLUTnM8E90XI56t1lBr8bUlPRt4k8QgoeLk6uZhKNnxH2WDw6kOOf434b7N22BLZNBJSKn36EHoKREKIY1tOXIZAkRqMTruy0mAuU9uHrDqVoEQRPcD9c3Eb_DCJGLOSaKC/s640/Village+MF_Cottage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is where my husband and I live in the village! We are the only residents in Pine Hill! LOL! <br />
<br />
I included our last name and a house # on the cottage. I used another label from the <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=17_83&product_id=103" target="_blank">14 Labels SVG set</a> for the house # and accented it with rhinestones. <br />
<br />
I created a wreath for the door using the garland trim I used on the school (I wrapped it around my glue pen to give it the circle shape). Then added some gold sequins to it. I love the silver/gold combo!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsVo0mSE4GVOG-qfujcNWa0oSMf8p_Umdioz35VQ7xOOnkkLGcwQY-fQLKIO-rg4sLFefU5Q9jNb9HGZ42-VVf6MLemZnjHw4zwXwwaxk-K0q4foJPrj_igTvKEi94GgzIMvMHlfDZ0PVR/s1600/Village+MF_Cottage2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsVo0mSE4GVOG-qfujcNWa0oSMf8p_Umdioz35VQ7xOOnkkLGcwQY-fQLKIO-rg4sLFefU5Q9jNb9HGZ42-VVf6MLemZnjHw4zwXwwaxk-K0q4foJPrj_igTvKEi94GgzIMvMHlfDZ0PVR/s640/Village+MF_Cottage2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_76&product_id=688" target="_blank">3D Christmas Tree #5 SVG</a> by Lori for the Christmas tree in the window. I decorated the tree using red and silver rhinestones and some gold sequins trim I found at Michael's. I used my hot glue gun to glue the tree in place inside the cottage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_zLP3I5IIjq5UV3ngTsdA8S8ML89auSH69uHo5xOLNf1Ur0zryU0Viw9sevgMgRl15Fr164MDVB_9OepQSOweK9o-6gkBP3pAzyzRgShTbXgt_qzpZ8KFu0xlI7_7u96yR8B8w9JD2b8E/s1600/Village+MF_Cottage3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_zLP3I5IIjq5UV3ngTsdA8S8ML89auSH69uHo5xOLNf1Ur0zryU0Viw9sevgMgRl15Fr164MDVB_9OepQSOweK9o-6gkBP3pAzyzRgShTbXgt_qzpZ8KFu0xlI7_7u96yR8B8w9JD2b8E/s640/Village+MF_Cottage3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I couldn't add real lights to the outside of the cottage, I added this rhinestone trim by Simplicity. I applied the "lights" to the roof of the cottage and the top of the fireplace using a hot glue gun.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWhtOmJEr2VH4bNCxjtj9yq13l8Mojqxly3-RvG6JkQe2ytbXbrD4kfTv6_uY12j8Hk4KXiqB3ybmGen7BEs3Z3bvgkFDRvC4yMFg1sqp44e_YkaZDcf0Gi1Vh65koWJAxxbtZIcAa0GKT/s1600/Village+MF_Cottage4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWhtOmJEr2VH4bNCxjtj9yq13l8Mojqxly3-RvG6JkQe2ytbXbrD4kfTv6_uY12j8Hk4KXiqB3ybmGen7BEs3Z3bvgkFDRvC4yMFg1sqp44e_YkaZDcf0Gi1Vh65koWJAxxbtZIcAa0GKT/s640/Village+MF_Cottage4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To turn on the flameless votive inside of the cottage, I left the back of the roof open - meaning I didn't glue the back side of the roof down. Sneaky, ay? ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilxCa2DQxTYi7ZhBz4tTYyYukbyXRDvq1VdD0W7oBUuFn2YffDTwENMCTMmUEuN_3kx_3BZcAQMw-zEixvD-gXzKhEA2xyb4YkYujDjN7QApU4LhvCJ_XER3Qnek1FnBlFKh9hyphenhyphenkQgzMTo/s1600/Village+MF_Cottage5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilxCa2DQxTYi7ZhBz4tTYyYukbyXRDvq1VdD0W7oBUuFn2YffDTwENMCTMmUEuN_3kx_3BZcAQMw-zEixvD-gXzKhEA2xyb4YkYujDjN7QApU4LhvCJ_XER3Qnek1FnBlFKh9hyphenhyphenkQgzMTo/s640/Village+MF_Cottage5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Did you notice the super adorable scalloped shingles and the snow on the roofs and trees????? And, the doors - the beautiful wooden doors!!! I used 'Boardroom' patterned paper from the 9 to 5 collection by October Afternoon! These were my favorite, favorite adds! Lori had made the villages so adorable already, I wanted to add something too! To create the shingles, I used the scalloped border SVG from the <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=17_80&product_id=585" target="_blank">Simple Borders</a> set. This was time consuming, I can't lie, and so worth it! I cut out about 60 of these borders, then curled them up around a pen (so they stick up more), and then glued them down individually, one after the other, to the roofs. Once the villages were complete, I added some homemade snow!<br />
<br />
One more thing that I almost forgot to mention and it is an important tip! To make each village very sturdy, I created them using lightweight chipboard in white. This is why the inside of each building is white. I glued the colored cardstock to one side of each of the chipboard pieces prior to assembling the buildings.<br />
<br />
Thanks for looking at my village! Below is a complete list of the materials I used for this project as well as a tutorial on how to make snow for your projects!<br />

<strong><span style="font-size: large;"><u></u></span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-size: large;"><u>Make Your Own Snow!</u></span></strong><br />
<br />
<u>Materials Needed</u>:<br />
Baby Powder or Talcum Powder<br />
Crystal Glitter (Larger Course Glitter)<br />
White Glue - Elmer's or Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive<br />
Spray Adhesive<br />
White Acrylic Paint<br />
Paint Brush or Wood Popsicle Stick<br />
2 Plastic Containers for Mixing Ingredients<br />
Newspaper (2 different placings - one for powder mixture and one for glitter)<br />
<br />
<u>Instructions</u>:<br />
1) Create a mixture of 1/2 cup baby powder and 1/2 cup course crystal glitter in a plastic container. Set the powder mixture aside. <br />
<br />
2) Mix equal parts of white glue and white acrylic paint together in a plastic container using a paint brush or wood popsicle stick. There is no set amount you need to make at one time as you can make as little or as much as you would like. If you want to make a lot of the glue mixture at one time, I recommend putting it in a container with a lid so you avoid the glue drying before it is applied to your project.<br />
<br />
3) Apply the glue mixture to your project liberally using a paint brush or wood popsicle stick. <br />
<br />
4) Put the project on top of some newspaper and apply the powder mixture liberally to the areas where the glue was applied. Let the powder sit on the glue for a few minutes. Then, shake off the excess powder onto the newspaper. <br />
<br />
5) To add more texture and shine, I recommend putting the project on top of some new newspaper, then apply a spray adhesive. Immediately apply glitter to the sprayed areas. Shake off the excess glitter onto the newspaper.<br />
<br />
Here is what the finished snow should look like on your project:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRS9GVBMUrTfh7QDeeOiMg7OgpQWinZwrdmmEugpw9H0717xBd0d7Te2K8som0jXIp3h7XmCNT-cyWQ5inV53bEZAq5L8EPcsnzohyphenhyphencZvqXePgMdnWcAfVzkk6gw91WB6moMo_3OAisAu-/s1600/Village+MF_Snow+Paste.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRS9GVBMUrTfh7QDeeOiMg7OgpQWinZwrdmmEugpw9H0717xBd0d7Te2K8som0jXIp3h7XmCNT-cyWQ5inV53bEZAq5L8EPcsnzohyphenhyphencZvqXePgMdnWcAfVzkk6gw91WB6moMo_3OAisAu-/s1600/Village+MF_Snow+Paste.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To clean-up, use the crease in the newspaper to gather the extra powder and/or glitter and dump them into their respective plastic containers.<br />
<br />
It will take about 24 hours for the snow paste to dry. Avoid handling your project during this time.<br />
<br />
Thanks so much for stopping by today and thank you Lori and Lisa for having me as a Guest Designer on the Lori Whitlock blog! I had a lot of fun using your SVG files and feel very honored that you asked me!<br />

I miss you sun! I guess this is the sign that winter is here. Good thing we have the holidays to distract us! <br />
<br />
Today I used my new Sizzix Eclips and eCal software to make some fun shaker tags. I have included a tutorial below in case you want to make some of these too! Also, see the bottom of this post for the winner of my giveaway of the new Holly Jolly Christmas SVG collection by The Digi Bistro and the 12 Days of Christmas paper kit by My Mind's Eye!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4k2AX880ae9rr6Ofhcxe57JNs4T8GhMHr4vDDC9Cmv1DLUmCGj73Fu_2VnyJUEKYFrgOf9u3aA0LvKNkiBEgf7T6no8N7hZ2JgJNGCF4l38SQBPSL760YBOrfjF0k4XvEX4RK9kMPTDOP/s1600/Christmas+Shaker+Tags_MS_TPR_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4k2AX880ae9rr6Ofhcxe57JNs4T8GhMHr4vDDC9Cmv1DLUmCGj73Fu_2VnyJUEKYFrgOf9u3aA0LvKNkiBEgf7T6no8N7hZ2JgJNGCF4l38SQBPSL760YBOrfjF0k4XvEX4RK9kMPTDOP/s1600/Christmas+Shaker+Tags_MS_TPR_2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<u>To make the shaker part of the tags, you will need</u>:<br />
<ul>
<li>Lightweight chipboard</li>
<li>Window sheets or transparency paper</li>
<li>Cardstock</li>
<li>Glue (I prefer Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive)</li>
<li>Confetti/Punches/Glitter - Whatever you want to put inside the shaker. I used Iridescent Glitter by Martha Stewart Crafts</li>
</ul>
Determine what shape you want to use for the shaker. If you have SCAL or MTC, make a copy of the shape and make it a shadow of the original shape. Then place the original shape within the shadow and group them together. Once grouped, make 3 copies of the shape with the shadow and cut them out on the lightweight chipboard using your die-cutting machine like shown in the picture below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXqe9aWV7LhyphenhyphenhYcVVEKz7Bhgjw4Ym_ZASoWT05Muup3W0DgTCAY5MbcOmgZvYyUDX8lidN9vfXSBicry6fFpK7-rnwYPUr2TCFh-y2C7EqK3MVckX_5KFnqGpj_2-1brwUfLLVH14sHA00/s1600/IMG_4719+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXqe9aWV7LhyphenhyphenhYcVVEKz7Bhgjw4Ym_ZASoWT05Muup3W0DgTCAY5MbcOmgZvYyUDX8lidN9vfXSBicry6fFpK7-rnwYPUr2TCFh-y2C7EqK3MVckX_5KFnqGpj_2-1brwUfLLVH14sHA00/s400/IMG_4719+copy.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Remove the shapes from the mat. Then glue them together - one on top of the other until it looks like this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5YoBQjODwdz2p2AcnF6h50VXomHmt8Pxi7QaPZH_8xBFruwav6ChZ2y_JTebGx0RtynMk4FF7V1IIkMKJZ2kA9xIwWnO0nJKYLqMthYvk3oZ3Nh1FiDmhVCuwMjoGmTqrlhlEGF7Kc5OS/s1600/IMG_4725+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5YoBQjODwdz2p2AcnF6h50VXomHmt8Pxi7QaPZH_8xBFruwav6ChZ2y_JTebGx0RtynMk4FF7V1IIkMKJZ2kA9xIwWnO0nJKYLqMthYvk3oZ3Nh1FiDmhVCuwMjoGmTqrlhlEGF7Kc5OS/s400/IMG_4725+copy.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
Cut out this shape one more time with the cardstock you want to put on top of the assembled shaker.<br />
<br />
Then, in your cutting software, remove the original shape (the inside shape) and cut out the remaining shape (the shadow) in cardstock for the back of the shaker and in the windowed sheet/transparency paper for the top of the shaker. You should now have all of the shapes show below. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvSVbunJOl7Kviaolc9nG51Ep3GAjpRTPncyz0fawdpEu7LWgMh5HSVUwGfkd3U47K60plpPjlWQO0Chw2MLQdVqzk_EdLTJglN3H0iD7w7RkQ-KjF8eaxD8WPgPr7RR7Bmk-BoNKj-oVx/s1600/IMG_4728+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvSVbunJOl7Kviaolc9nG51Ep3GAjpRTPncyz0fawdpEu7LWgMh5HSVUwGfkd3U47K60plpPjlWQO0Chw2MLQdVqzk_EdLTJglN3H0iD7w7RkQ-KjF8eaxD8WPgPr7RR7Bmk-BoNKj-oVx/s400/IMG_4728+copy.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now glue the shadow shape to the back of the layered chipboard shape. <br />
<br />
Then, fill the shape generously with confetti/punches/glitter. Once filled, glue the windowed shape to the top of the layered chipboard. <br />
<br />
The final step is to glue the cardstock shape to the very top (this covers the glue that shows through the windowed shape). Your shaker is done! <br />
<br />
And here are the final tags embellished with the assembled shakers:<br />
<br />

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! Now it is time to shop! I certainly have made some purchases today - the deals are too good to pass up!<br />
<br />
Below are some sales that I think you will like!!!!<br />
<br />
I have been wanting a <strong>Sizzix Eclips</strong> for awhile now. With a Sizzix Eclips, you have the opportunity to cut SVGs without being completely tied to cartridges which can be very, very expensive. I have found that SVGs are just at cute as the cartridge designs (if not cuter), and they are way more affordable! I purchased the Sizzix Eclips Starter Kit today for $150 at Archivers!!!! The regular price is $299 and it is 50% off! I haven't found a better deal online for this. So get yours while you still can and hurry! I am not sure when this sale ends. The Archivers I went to in Apple Valley, Minnesota, still had a couple in stock.<br />

<br />
When I saw the elves in this SVG collection, I instantly knew I needed to make them - aren't they sooooooooo cute!!! I used the tree and the wrapped gifts from this collection too.<br />
<br />
To make the handbook, I first found a book in my pile of stuff for a future garage sale (new use for something old!). Then I made a book cover using a brown grocery bag - this took me back to my school days when I covered all of my books this way! :)<br />
<br />
I created the title for the handbook using Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) and fonts from Lettering Delights. The fonts I used are <a href="http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/font:ld_woodland-8386.html&AID=41476" target="_blank">LD Woodland</a> and <a href="http://interneka.com/affiliate/AIDLink.php?link=www.letteringdelights.com/font:lollihop_thin_font-11137.html&AID=41476" target="_blank">Lollihop</a>. Also, I used SCAL to create the background of the front cover and to design the cover! I have a tutorial on how to use SCAL to design a layout <a href="http://www.thepaperretreat.blogspot.com/2011/03/design-your-project-in-sure-cuts-lot.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Designing in SCAL helps me visualize a project before using my materials and it usually saves me from cutting SVGs in a size that is less than ideal for my project.<br />
<br />
The paper and accessories I used are by October Afternoon. I purchased these goodies at the October Afternoon Warehouse Sale a couple weeks ago! I just love the vintage/retro feel to October Afternoon's products and they worked perfectly for this handbook! The patterned papers, trims, and tin pins come from the Holiday Style and Cakewalk collections. I also used "Playtime" Sticky Keys Stickers and a button from the Sasparilla collection.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><u>Other materials used</u>:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Cardstock and Rhinestones by Recollections (Michael's brand)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Stampin' Up Embossing Folder - Elegant Lines</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Stampin' Up Punch and Stamp Set - Tiny Tags (to embellish the gifts)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Scalloped Frame Die by Spellbinders</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Rustic Jute Twine by Papertrey Ink</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Stampin' Up Scalloped Circle Punch and 1 3/8" Circle Punch</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Ranger Distress Ink in Tye Dye</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Ballerina Pink chalk ink by Inkadinkado (to give the elve's rosy cheeks)</span><br />
<br />
Here are some close-ups of my handbook! Hoping you fall in love with it and make one of your own!<br />

Cher's SVGs are so adorable and so fun to play with. I decided to make simple cards using the cute Christmas characters from the "<a href="http://www.thedigibistro.com/christmas-penguin-svg-set">A Very Penguin Christmas</a>" collection and the "<a href="http://www.thedigibistro.com/svg-christmas-files-for-scal">Reindeer Games Christmas</a>" collection.<br />

<br />
I made these cards for my nieces and nephews so I decided to have the focus be on the character with the sentiments inside. To make these cards, first I cut each character out and pieced/glued them together. Then, I decided how I wanted to place them on the front of card and glued them down. Last, I cut off the parts of the character that extended past the card using my paper trimmer. I thought this added a unique touch and think it turned out really well. Note: When you do this, make sure you don't cut the card itself, especially on the crease of the card.<br />
<br />
To add a little extra touch to a couple of the cards, I added some snow using white Flower Soft. Also, I added pink chalk to all of the character's cheeks. They are outside and cold, right! And, it adds a touch of cuteness too!<br />
<br />
I made a total of 7 cards - I would have made more if I didn't have other things I need to do! :) Below are close-ups of each card.<br />

There was a particular decor project that I just loved and it is so simple to make! <br />
<br />
Check it out below! Isn't this the cutest! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFS8ju7m1duOJ25vT9UJK96GYBM6z32v9nj-ca_z9opjOoDDzwEW4LzRR5VW9QL6O-eT0CLQKghfcqx_j1SNuTvbg54uvUkmY8OJ-9aYC497LU9parc9ej4I-kv4oSI6-RqELxZhkqmXOP/s1600/P1010051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFS8ju7m1duOJ25vT9UJK96GYBM6z32v9nj-ca_z9opjOoDDzwEW4LzRR5VW9QL6O-eT0CLQKghfcqx_j1SNuTvbg54uvUkmY8OJ-9aYC497LU9parc9ej4I-kv4oSI6-RqELxZhkqmXOP/s640/P1010051.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make this, she bought some twigs, burlap, and a string of orange lights at a local arts and crafts store. She cut out moons and stars on her Cricut and attached them onto the twigs. Then, she wrapped the lights within the twigs, placed some burlap around the base of the arrangement and placed them into a super cute jar that she had. I don't know about you, but I am making one of these!!!! You could put a Christmas spin on this too - maybe stars and snowflakes?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks to my wonderful friend Carrie for letting me share her project! She doesn't have a blog, so if you want to leave her some love, please leave a comment on this post. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have some exciting news to share today too! I will be guest designing on the<a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/blog/" target="_blank"> Lori Whitlock blog</a> in December!!!!! I am beyond excited - I LOVE playing with Lori's SVGs! I recently shared a <a href="http://thepaperretreat.blogspot.com/2012/10/haunting-monsters-shadow-box.html" target="_blank">Halloween shadow box</a> that I made using Lori's SVGs. The shadow box itself is an SVG (and yes, made of paper!). Check it out <a href="http://thepaperretreat.blogspot.com/2012/10/haunting-monsters-shadow-box.html" target="_blank">here</a>! Also, if you are not familiar with Lori Whitlock products, check out her site <a href="http://www.loriwhitlock.com/blog/" target="_blank">here</a>. She designs SVGs, paper for Echo Park, and digital scrapbooking kits at JessicaSprague.com. </div>

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day with my husband getting Lasik eye surgery and Halloween and all. I hope you all have a fabulous, spooky, and fun Halloween! </div>

Today I was given the okay to share a spooky shadow box I made for the first issue of <a href="http://cuttingedgesvgs.com/" target="_blank">Cutting Edge Magazine</a>! The second issue of the magazine will be coming out in a couple days! <br />
<br />
My husband and I met while we worked together at a family amusement park. Towards the end of the season, we would get to dress up as Monsters, walk around the park, and entertain the guests. Most kids loved us, but some of the younger ones would get scared by us - even if we were friendly and wanted to give them a hug! :) To display these memories, I decided to use Lori Whitlock's SVGs and make a shadow box my husband and I can enjoy during the Halloween season. <br />

Some would call us crazy, but we had such a great time meeting fellow crafters and getting great bargains!<br />
<br />
The sale started at 6 pm and as expected, there was a line outside before it started. Carrie and I got there at 6:10 pm and the warehouse was already full. The warehouse could hold 40 people at a time so we had to wait for women to come out before we could go in.<br />
<br />
There were about 30 women ahead of us in line and it was cold! It was 38 degrees!!!! We came prepared with our coats, hats, and mittens and oh what fun we had waiting in line. I mean this somewhat sarcastically, but also seriously. The women we met in line were an absolute joy! Every time someone came out of the warehouse all of the women in line would cheer, knowing they were one person closer to getting inside. Yes, I cheered right along with them. Another highlight was the woman in front of me that was blowing soap bubbles while waiting in line. Too funny! We finally got inside at 7 pm.<br />
<br />
The wait was worth it! Once inside, the warehouse was lined with boxes and boxes of October Afternoon goodies! We spent two hours inside though it seemed like 30 minutes - time flies when you are having fun! Here is what I came out with!<br />
<br />

<br />
Lots of yummies! I bought tons of paper - lots of 8x8 paper pads and 12x12 paper packs of 25 or more sheets. My favorite collections are Witch Hazel, Farmhouse and 5 & Dime, so I grabbed as many goodies of these that I could find! I think I ended up with enough goodies to play with for many years to come! :)<br />
<br />
Packs of buttons were $1, brads were $4, flash cards and other misc. items were 10 cents each. 8x8 paper pads were $5, ribbon packs were $2, and 25 packs of paper ranged from $7-$12. For every 4 items purchased within a category, the 5th item was free! Not to shabby! The sale goes thru Sunday - see details <a href="http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/103768386444383/" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
<br />
We had such a great time! Can't wait for next year's sale!!!! <br />
<br />
<u>UPDATE 10/28/12</u>: I went back for more shopping on the last day of the sale. The products were marked down further (20-50% lower!), and I got 20% off my entire purchase! Check out the additional goodies I got below!!!! <br />
