We Love Our Heroes Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Today is Armed Forces Day!  We are hopping to show our support for this day and to bring awareness to the works of Operation Write Home. You should have arrived from Jazmin's blog.  If you would like to start at the beginning, hop over to Misty’s, so you don’t miss any of the wonderful cards this talented group has created for OWH.

OWH, in addition to card makers making cards for service persons to send home to their families, has what they call ‘Hero Mail.’  These cards can be any size; not just the usual required A2. They also include a personal note to ‘Any Hero.’ We call them heroes, because OWH covers all branches of service. These are passed out to deployed heroes, who might not get much mail, or just passed around to enjoy news from home.  Visit the OWH website to get more information about this charity and to see how you can help.  Here is the OWH website: http://operationwritehome.org.  Thank you to all of our heroes, past, present and those who serve on the home front as well!

For this hop, I chose to make a card for a soldier to send home to their loved ones using materials I don't use often enough.  I got out my heat embosser, white embossing powder, and a stamp to create the background of the paper.  I used a rub on for the sentiment and I used my paper distresser by Tim Holtz to rough up the edges.   I love the organic feel this card has.

Materials used:
- Paper by Recollections and Bazzill
- Gems by Creative Charms
- Ribbon by American Crafts
- Stamp by Stampin' Up!
- Dove embossing powder by Martha Stewart Crafts
- Rub-on sentiment by Sizzix
- Paper distresser by Tim Holtz

Now for my GIVEAWAY!!!  I am giving away this adorable clear stamp set by Autumn Leaves.  To enter my giveaway, please become a follower (if you are not already) and leave a comment on this post.  I will announce the winner on 5/25/11.

Thanks for hopping with us!  Your next stop on the hop is Jan at http://jans-gonestampin.blogspot.com/.

A Fab Card and Disney Blog Hop Winner!

My inspiration for this card is Getting Cricky's Sew Fabulous Challenge.  I took a different approach to the challenge and used a stitching template to create the pattern on the background of my card.

I made this card for my niece.  She has been through a lot of hard times in her life and is still trying to find her way in the world.  I hope this card brings her encouragement and brightens her day - the sentiment I chose is absolutely perfect I think.  "If you can imagine it, you can create it.  If you can dream it, you can become it" - William Arthur Ward.  Ahhhh, so inspiring...  The digital stamp used is from Sentimental Sundays.

To create the background of this card, I used 3 different glimmer mist colors and a circle stitching template by Bazzill Basics.  I placed the cardstock on a piece of chipboard, then adhered the template to chipboard using tape.  Then, I sprayed the colors on the template trying not to overlap the colors too much.  Then, I removed the template and lightly misted the paper to add more of a color splash look.  I love the imperfect look of all of the circles!

I framed the background with plum cardstock.  I also used a corner punch, a star flower by Creative Charms, and pearl accents to add more charm to the card.

Now for the winner of the Mickey and Friends bottle caps (from the Disney Blog Hop)....

Beautiful layout! Love how you used the big fireworks picture as kind of a background paper with the two little pictures up front. Looks awesome. Thanks for sharing. And have fun at Disneyland!

Congratulations Denise!!!  You were the winner via Random.org.  I will send you an email to get your address.  Thanks for the Disneyland wishes too!  I can't wait!

Thanks to everyone that participated in the Disney Blog hop and thank you for the lovely comments you left on my blog.  I am making my way to your blogs to see your creations too!  I love finding new blogs to follow!

For My Mom

**For the Disney Blog Hop, click HERE**

Happy Mother's Day!  Today, my siblings and I are taking our mom out to lunch and I can't wait to give her this card that I made.  I am diggin' the vintage feel of this card!

I love to create my own background paper using white or ivory paper, lots of glimmer mist, and digi stamps, and this was my first time adding an embossed stamp.  I love how this turned out so I will definitely be adding more embossed stamps to my backgrounds in the future!

Materials:
  • Butterfly silhouette SVG by SVGCuts (cut with Cricut using Sure Cuts A Lot).  SVG is no longer available.
  • "Mom" digi stamp by Vickie Fernandez (printed on card using Sure Cuts A Lot)
  • Star glitter and gold embossing powder by Martha Stewart Crafts
  • Glimmer mists in Tiger Lily, Tuscan Sun, Olive Vine, and Riptide
  • Pearl accents by Recollections
  • Flourish stamp by Stampin' Up!
  • Butterfly embossed using Tim Holtz Cracked template and Sizzix Texture Boutique

I have entered this project in the following challenges and link-ups:
Claudia & Company Challenge 81 - Butterflies
More Than Favors Wacky Wednesday - Mother's Day
Paper Cutz Challenge 90 - Mother's Day
Sentimental Sundays Challenge 54 - Anything Goes

A Blessed Day & Some Exciting News!!!

My day yesterday was a truly blessed day!  I apologize in advance for the long post, but I just need to tell you all about it!!!  Ok, here it goes:

The first thing that put a smile on my face was when I received a fun surprise from an old friend.  She sent me a cute little stuffed animal that we used to share when I worked with her.  She is so thoughtful and I just love her fun spirit!

In the afternoon, I went to Starbucks to get my favorite hot chocolate (with a shot of caramel - you need to try this if you haven't - so, so, so, delicious) because it was a cold day in Minnesota.  To my surprise, the person in the car in front of me at the drive-thru paid for my hot chocolate.  Why?  Here is the letter I received from this wonderful person:

"Hi! You don't know me, but I've just paid for your order. No gimmicks - it's just something I felt like doing. I heard about people doing things for others on the radio station KTIS at 98.5 on the dial. They call it "the drive thru difference." Maybe you'll feel like doing it for someone else! I hope this encourages you today!! Signed, the stranger in the car ahead of you."

Later in the evening, I was checking blogger and noticed that I won, not ONE, but TWO of the giveaways during the Creative Charms Farewell Hop!!!  I am so excited!  I love, love, love Creative Charms!!!

And finally, my super, uber, exciting news!  To my surprise, I saw the latest issue of GingerScrapStreet Magazine and there was my Cabin Memories Shadow Box!!!  I have been published!!!  I am so excited and can't thank K Andrew at Getting Cricky enough for this wonderful surprise!  She inspires me and is such a wonderful person.  You must check out her blog if you aren't already following her!  You can check out my project in the magazine here

I will pay this blessed day forward.  I will definitely be buying some one's drive-thru order and maybe do this two or three times this week!

Thanks for letting me share my day with you all.  May you all have a very blessed day!
